Oil on Canvas, Size: 60 × 80 cm
This painting started as a self-portrait, me with a big fiery phoenix sitting on my shoulder, that I wasn’t really able to finish. So, I painted over it and made it into a landscape of one of my favourite places in the world, a mountain top in Serbia where I’ve hiked many times. I wasn’t convinced by that either so then I left it and for a long time it sat in my studio. It wasn’t until I went to see the opera Carmen that I was finally able to finish it. So, that’s the story of ‘Carmen’, finally it’s her.
