Imani is a portrait of a black woman reminiscent of Grace Jones, a mix of glamour and grounded femininity represented in a painting. The word ‘imani’ also means faith in Arabic and Swahili, here it symbolises the faith in one self.

I saw a beautiful Milvus once when driving out to the countryside in Southern Sweden for an art exhibition. At the time, I took it as a good omen that would bring me luck, so I painted it, but in reality I think it was a lesson. Anyway, that’s a story for another time. They’re actually called Red Kites in English, but in Swedish, the name is Röd Glada, which I personally find much more appropriate, and it translates to ‘Red Happy’.
